[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the Little Penguin, also know as the Fairy Penguin. It is the world's smallest penguin, is the only one to breed in Australia, and is the only one to wait until dark before coming ashore to roost. They leave the surf forming groups and crossing the beach to sand dunes and cliffs where they roost in crevices and burrows excavated under tussocks.

Phillip Island is famous for its daily Penguin Parade, where the little penguins are the stars of the show. The Penguin Parade occurs at dusk when the Phillip Island fairy penguins return to shore. They are so cute to watch waddling up from the beach. Unfortunately photos are not permitted when they are coming out of the water, because it is dark and the camera flash scares the penguins and hurts their eyes.

Fortunately for me though, a number of penguins were moulting. These penguins cannot go into the water during the duration of their moult. They stay on land in their natural burrows. This allowed me to get some penguin shots in the late afternoon/early evening. It was daylight saving, which meant there was plenty of light. This was one of the penguins I saw and was able to get a number of photos of. I hope you like this shot of this little cutie :)

well captured Claudia, interesting shot.

Nice capture Claudia,
This is the first fairy penguin I've seen. It seems very shy.
Good detail, colours and sharpness.
Composition and lighting are good. Good POV and framing.
Thanks for posting, enjoy the rest of the week.

Great composition. Nice perspective. I like how the foliage frames the bird. Nice detail and lighiting as well.

Hello Claudia!

Joli petit pengouin.
Un excellent travail.
Merci Claudia.

Hi Claudia, Good composition of this Fairy penguin. It is sharp and clear with good colours. Great note about it too. We visited here a few years ago and there were about 5 busloads of vistors on a very cold night. Wonderful composition. Murray.
PS Thanks for a good WS.
