[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We arrived early one morning at a deserted carpark in the centre of Cairns: deserted that is, except for these two Bush Stone Curlews who were just as surprised at our arrival as we were surprised to see them.
I quickly grabbed my wife's Canon Powershot S2 IS and took a couple of shots. They didn't fly off: they simply marched off at a great pace until they dissappeared into the bushes by the carpark.
Stone-curlews are normally shy birds and are hard to approach close enough to photograph them.
What they were doing in the carpark is open to speculation as their normal habitat is open scrubland.
But they are active at night, as their large eyes indicate and they must have been after insects that came under the carpark lighting. During the heat of the day they rest among the vegetation and are hard to see with their camouflage.
Bush Stone-curlews are not that common but are widely distributed throughout Australia where they are an indigenous species.

Hej Ivan!
Extremely amusing shot. The moment I looked at it I couldn't help myself from smiling broadly. If it wasn't for the head of the one in the background they would have looked like cloned. Congratulations,
Mark

Great catch. Love the light on these beauties and the long shadows. Cheers

A great composition, Ivan.
A fun capture with those two stone curlews walking parallel to each other with those very long legs. The surface of the sand is amazingly flat. The shadows also add interest to the picture.
TFS. : )

Bonjour,
Joli duo et effet comique.
Bonne journée.

Hi Ivan,
I like it a lot! This is a great composition with very good details on both birds. I like the lightning, POV and DOF too. This is really well done and well seen. TFS,
Claudine

Hi Ivan,
An excellent shot on this pair of Stone-curlews. Godd exposure has brought out the colors and detail very well. What I really like is the stark backround from the parkinglot and the long shadows created by the angle of the sun. Very cool!

Hi Ivan

Congrats on an excellent shot. Well composed, good clear detail and nicely saturated colour. :-)

Hello Ivan!
I really have to say that usually I do not comment pictures with birds because this is not my favourite group. Anyway this picture is so nice that I decide to do it :)
You showed here a nice and funny composition, with good DOF and contast. On the other hand it is a pitty that the whole shadow of the second bird is not seen. It would be nice to do not cut the "head" of this shadow :)
Anyway, I really like this picture :)
Best greetings from Poland!
Radomir

Hello Ivan,
Fantastic capture of these two marching curlews. They looks just like two soldiers patrolling the beach. Double success - interesting bird species and very nice timing!
Best greetings and TFS,
Michal
