WHITE LIONS OF THE TIMBAVATI.
Timbavati is a small game reserve bordering Kruger National Park in South Africa. In 1955 twenty eight landowners combined their holdings and dedicated themselves to the preservation of wildlife in their area.
In 1975 a man named Chris McBride was completing his masters degree in wildlife management and was studying lions. In early October of that year he stopped to watch a lioness along the road. The lioness was with two snow white cubs and one tawny coloured cub. The white cubs were a male and a female who came to be named Temba and Tombi and the tawny cub was a male, Vela.
The cubs were not albino. They had normal yellowish brown eyes instead of the pink eyes that an albino would have. A recessive gene causes the white colour.
The last sighting of a white lion in the wild was more than ten years ago. Today, there are no white lions in the wild.

Again, I captured this image at the Mogo Zoo on the south coast of New South Wales. I was pleased with the quality of the image as I had no alternative but to shoot though wire meshing of the enclosure, which seems to have disappeared because of the focal length of 300mm. Well, I'm happy with it, I hope you like it.
Only slight colour correction and adjustments to brightness and contrast were made using Photoshop Elements.

Nice composition Steve but focus a bit soft and post very small. It must have been very far from you.
TFS.

Hi Steve, this is a pale lion. She looks happy enough laying there in the zoo. She's not too clear but a good composition. TFS.
