Veiny Lace Flower – Archidendron hendersonii

Around this time last year we spent five weeks in Australia and I can’t help reminiscing! The amount of endemic species as regards both flora and fauna is really overwhelming. In retrospect I regret not taking more pictures of all the interesting endemic plants that we saw but sometimes it is really hard to keep an eye on birds, butterflies and other insects as well as plants at the same time.. Anyway I have a few interesting pictures which I treasure.

This is one of them. These are the flowers on a small tree up to 8 m high with a rounded bushy crown and thick, wrinkled branches. The flowers are 10-15 cm long with short stalks and have protruding stamens. They are grouped in bunches and flower from spring to early summer. It is quite widespread in eastern Queensland.
The tree belongs to the family Mimosaceae.

Interesting looking flower. Very good exposure and sharpness. Nice colors.

Hi Ulla,
What a beautiful flower. Never seen anything like it before. The way the flower blooms is really intersting. It looks like it burst open. The quality of the photo is perfect, with great clarity, details and colors. Good work on the aperture to get a nice OOF BG.
