For a change I thought I would post one of my digiscoped shots, this time from Australia.

This is the Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis). The female has a longer bill (up to 20 cm) and is slightly larger, which makes her species the largest wader in the world.
Storks, herons, egrets, ibises, cranes and spoonbills are not classified as waders.

The Eastern Curlew breeds in N.E. Asia and overwinters from India and S.E. Asia to Australia and New Zealand.

The beach at Cairns is muddy and large stretches are exposed at low tide. This attracts large numbers of waders, most of which are winter visitors, including these curlews. This makes it famous among birdwatchers who can enjoy these birds from a walkway known as the Esplanade.

This shot was taken through my scope at a distance of about 50 meters in the middle of the day when there was a lot of heat haze. Though I didn’t need to crop very much, PP treatment included sharpening and increasing contrast, followed by removal of noise using Neat Image

Hi Ivan,
At least here we cannot comment the same picture at the same time! Beautiful composition and colours for this wader. I like a lot the mouvement of the bird and the patterns of the feathers.
Meilleures salutations

Hi Ivan

What a beautiful capture!
This Easter Curlew is indeed a rarer sight on TN...so TFS :)
The POV here is excellent and the pose of your subject - with its head turned right towards you - is really fantastic.
Lovely natural colors and very nice sharp details, too.
Bravo, TFS and have a great weekend!
Horia

Wonderful digiscope from such a long distance, Ivan. I am impressed with its sharpness and clarity.
I like the feather pattern of this long-legged bird from Australia. The colours too look natural in this image.
Thanks and bye.
Ram

Hi Ivan, Very nice shot of the Eastern Curlew. You've got great composition and the detail, especially on the back feathers and bill, for 50 metres is excellent.

Thanks, John

Hi Ivan.
What a nice pose of this long-legged beauty. Excellent illumination, sharpness and colours of the bird. Nice soft BG and ground and very pleasant at whole colour palette of the shot: delicate and, simultaneously, bright. My best regards and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Ivan,
Good DOF..you actually experience this largest wader through the way it is depicted...
Well done..

Oh! This image deserves a lot of praise. What a pose? Send my love to the model. I have only seen eurasian curlews here, though there are records of eastern curlews visiting the Indian coastline I was never fortunate enough to see one. This picture of yours gave me the feel of a firsthand sighting.
Cheers

Great result for a digiscoped shot. Great details on the plumage at 50m, very impressive.
