[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Common Brown Ringlet (Hypocysta metirius) is a medium small satyrid. It is rather inconspicuous and flies fairly low keeping to low vegetation at the edges of forests and in moist lush habitats. It rests with its wings open.

It is found in Eastern Australia from tropical Queensland to S. NSW. Like most satyrids its larval host plants are various grasses.

This shot was taken on a cloudy day at the edge of rainforest on the Atherton Tablelands. It was cropped by about 50%. and after size reduction sharpened and treated for noise.

Hi Ivan.
What a nice shot with excellent separation of the main subject from BG. Amazing details of the butterfly and leaf. Very effective soft lighting and perfect composition of the shot. Superb done and TFS.
Alexei.

My, that pair of eye-spots would frighten even the toughest predator away, Ivan!
A lovely capture of this unique butterfly from Australia.
A very fine composition from an effective point of view. The colours are true to nature.

Ram

Hello Ivan,
I like to see another Australian Satyride butterfly here and would like to include it in my THEME on Satyridae. I think that Hypocysta metirius is shown the first time at TN.
The great depth of field allows to see most of the butterfly in superb clarity, despite the more difficult point of view.
Best wishes and thank you for posting, Peter

Hi Ivan

I like the POV chosen here. It shows the wings nicely. Tack sharp with good colour. How nice to be able to photograph in a natural environment as opposed to me having to visit a tropical butterfly house! :-)

Hello Argus!
Another interesting macro! :) I like the POV and contrast. Also DOF is good.
On the other hand I think that some noise reduction would be good idea :)
Best regards and have a nice day!

Hi Ivan, It sems I have missed lots of your pictures in last couple of days.
This is an awesome capture. what i like about this pic is the compositon. Little guy sitting on the leaf tip. hmm.....great.Wonderfull colors. Great details.BG is a bit (not much) noisy (inherent drawback of S1/S2/S3 IS). But that doesnt matter.

TFS Regards
mahesh

Hello Ivan,
a very inviting presentation of this exotic ringlet on that leaf. A capture of perfect quality with an outstandlingly well balanced composition.
Remarkable location for these conspicuous eye spots - they look so different to our European ringlets. Thank you for this interesting contribution!
With best regards,
Peter

Hi Ivan

This is an excellent shot of a lovely 4 eyed butterfly which incidentally is the first time for me to see. I like your composition with the leave delivering the priced trophy. The colours are stunning and the details are amazingly sharp on the leave and the butterfly sitting on it. The BG is well removed and OOF and it provide excellent enhancement to the subject. You also made perfect use of the available lighting.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot
