[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Both Australian species of catbird, the Green and the Spotted are so called because of the cat-like mewing sound they make. Catbirds are related to Bowerbirds and are about the size of a large thrush.

This species, the Spotted Catbird (Ailurodus maculosus), is found in a few areas in N. Queensland. We were touring the Atherton Tablelands and stayed in an area where they were quite common.

Catbirds are very fond of fruit and are easily attracted to bananas that can be hung up in a net for them to peck at.

This individual, about 5 meters away, was waiting in the shade for me to leave my lodge balcony to get at the banana.

hi ivan,
impressive capture of catbird,
the green colour on the wings looks almost unreal but beautiful, looks like the bird is trying to listen something,
good pose, well composed shot,
tfs & regards
pankaj

G'day Ivan
I did not know that they liked bananas!
They are so hard to find in our rainforests, yes you can here them but it realy takes a trained eye to see them!
I realy like how the sun react to the emerald wings and he seems to have almost a mischiefus look about him.
Thanks for sharing Paul

Hi Ivan,
I enjoyed reading your short note....amazing how close they let you get. They are obviously used to being around humans.A good quality image with lots of detail despite it being in amongst the shadows and a good pose.A touch oversaturation of the greens on its back.A good DOF....TFS.
Regards, David

I have seen this bird for the first time, Ivan. I like that green metallic sheen on its wings.
Very well captured image in the dappled light. Excellent POV, sharpness and colours. You have utilized the space within the frame thoughtfully and aesthetically.
Regards,
Ram

Hello Ivan,
well captured from quite a distance with pretty good details, with nice freckles of sunlight touching the catbird in the shadow. The story on its sounds and banana loving behaviour sounds funny and interesting.
Saw in the news that southern Sweden has right now been visited by winter. Not much better here in Austria, although there is still no snow in the lowlands. Good time of the year to pay a visit to Australia here on TN.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Hi Ivan,

Another bird that is new to me. It really sounds like a cat?

Beautiful capture, as always.

Jane

He definitely looks like he wants that banana!

Good job here Ivan I like the composition with the angled branch. Having the birds attention elsewhere is nice change to standard portrait shots. The greens on his back are incredible. Some noise is evident probably due to difficult metering situation.
Well done

Hi Ivan.
Very attractive shot by pictured scene. Your note supplements and explains the picture very well. I like how the bird illuminated despite of bright BG. Perfect work with lighting and exposure. Wonderful diagonal composition is very pleased to me as well as the great sharpness of the bird and twig and nice blurriness of the BG. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.

hi Ivan,
très jolie image, la couleur verte du fond donne bien la réplique au plumage sombre.
La netteté est excellente, bravo.

Hola Ivan,
Excelente trabajo, la composición, la luz y nitidez son excelentes, enhorabuena. Un cordial saludo

Hello Ivan!
At first I have to say that I have not heard about birds eating bananas! This is really interesting note! :)
Now a few words about picture: nice DOF, good POV and colours. But please tell me, am I right that this bird was in shadow place? Some parts of wings are darkener than other :)
Greetings from place where today winter (unfortunatelly) came back...

Hi Ivan,
this is a fine picture of this bird with a little colour fringing around the branch. That is one of the reasons I am not big on taking pictures into trees but you did well just the same. Those green features must be something to see out in the open. TFS. Bob
