Don’t you just love the colours of this succulent – the pale blue leaves with the dark navy blue ends and tips. Also as the plant unfolds I can see a tinge of yellow on the leaves. This agave is quite large - I'd say about 18 inches / 45cms wide. Unfortunately this is another plant wasn’t named in the Wintergarden’s Hothouse at the Domain. So I though I would tell you about the Auckland’s Domain.

The Auckland Domain is the city's oldest park.
The 75 hectare park has been developed around the cone of an extinct volcano. The 'tuff rings' created by volcanic activity can be seen in the land contours and forms a natural amphitheatre with about 10 hectares developed as sports fields.

Auckland Domain as well as being the city’s oldest park it is one of its most popular. The open green area is a pleasant contrast to the bustling city centre, just minutes away. Land for the Domain was set aside in 1840 in the early years of the area’s European settlement, and development continued over the next century. The park has the classic charm of formal gardens, a statuary and green clearings edged by mature trees. And of course, there is the Winter Garden, a Fernery and the Museum.

The Winter Gardens
are located in the Auckland Domain, and consist of two large glass houses, a cool one for temperate plants, and a hot house for tropical plants, as well as a formal courtyard garden and fernery. The gardens were opened in 1913 to commemorate the Auckland Industrial, Agricultural and Mining Exhibition in 1913/14. Entry to the winter gardens, including the glass houses and the fernery, is free.

Alongside the Winter Gardens is the FERNZ fernery, an award-winning native garden that displays the many varieties of ferns that are found in New Zealand. And we do have quite a few native ferns in NZ…

Realy this looks like a blue rose.
Wonderful plant and anybody would love to take this home.
I would like to see it from the other sides too. Good POV

Nice work Janice. I don't remember it being this beautiful blue. The shape is stunning. The deep blue of the prickles is a good contrast. Isn't nature wonderful!

Great photo, superior colors, clarity and POV.

Lovely what else can I say... This blue is just fantastic and so is your work... Sharp and crystal-clear... Composition perfect... I love it... TFS...Ina... :)

Excellent, Janice. Lovely color and interesting texture. Great compo. Very well done.

I love all the little "v's" formed with the leaves of this cactus. The color is wonderful, I've never seen one of these in this color. Very nice, sharp, clear macro, well done as usual Janice.

Hello Janice,

true colours? I never saw a plant with such a steel blue colour. Auckland Domain is on my list for the next visit.
Unfortunatelly it will take some time because next year Australia will be first.

TFS.

Great pale blue color, wonderful leaves of this cactus. Lovely details, good composition.
Nice work.

Hi, Janice

As you asked me, I'll try to correct some missidentification. This one is a kind of Agave, which is closer to lillies family, and not a cactus.
Otherwise the picture looks very nice and strange in the same time with that blue.

Regards, Petru

Hello Janice!
This is another very nice picture! Simply but the best! :) It has everything what is needed: good DOF and details, interesting idea for a picture and perfect presentation! I really like this photo!
TFS and I am waiting for your next pictures! :)
