[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This bird was in the childrens zoo section at the Auckland Zoo. I couldn't find any information on what it is. I am sure one of my TN friends will help with this mystery.

Yes, I can help.
This is a Brolga. They are a type of crane, native to Northern Australia. Now endangered due to habitat depletion, they were the inspiration for Aboriginal dances. The word Brolga means 'native friend'
(I found them on the Auckland zoo website).
Nice shot Pam...he looks kind of sad though.

Hi Pam
and thanks for the right name from LordPotty. I knew it was a crane and endangered, most are, and this is a nice specimen. The framing to the right works very well. Watch -out for too close cropping - see his feet, give a bit of room, it improves the general "feel" & impact. Also, try shooting f8, it will render the bill in focus, currently a bit soft. Also, the time of day was against you here, hence a bit overexposed on the plumage. I am sure you can tweak the saturation abit in PS. Just some pointers to remember for furure use, not meant negative.

WOW! What a bird. Well presented specimen Pam. It's so nice to see new things here on TN. Thanx for sharing.

A 1 legged crane? I am usually amazed that they can pull up those long leggs and then hide them that it looks like it does not have a second leg.

Very well captured and thanks for posting

Nice crisp shot. As Callie mentioned, a fraction overexposed on the rear end, and probably easily corrected in PS.

Beautiful bird....... Nice feathers on him....
