Silvereye
Zosterops lateralis

The Silvereye
is a small bird that weighs about 10 grams.

Its name came about because of the thin white rings of colouring around its eyes that give the impression it is wearing silver-rimmed glasses. It is also known as White Eye.

The Maori name for Silvereye is Tauhou, meaning Little Stranger.

Tauhou, is a small olive-green forest bird with white rings around the eyes. They have a fine tapered bill and a brush tipped tongue like the Tui and Korimako, the bellbird, for drinking nectar.

There are many species in Africa, southern Asia, and the south western Pacific, but it is the Tasmanian sub-Australian species which migrates to the eastern states of the Australian mainland in winter which colonised New Zealand.

I took this photo at Pam’s (Coasties) place, using her Canon 70-200mm F/2.8L IS + EF 1.4X II Ex. Thanks Pam

Pam has a feeding station for ‘her’ Silver Eyes and Tuis, and these little fellows were feeding well.

selam janice, an excellent close up shot and very good composition of this lovely bird nice pov and bg with splendid colours.
Well done ! Regards
ridvan

Hi Janice.
Great shot, they look such a hard case when you see the two eyes together, like little headlights. I must find the one I have somewhere. I have just put another one of the Silvereye up on my site, out on a West Coast frosty morning here
Great detail and wonderful composition. DOF is great, making him stand out. F/2.8 70-200mm lens, lucky Pam. F/2.8 lets in so much more light than the F/4.

Wonderful
Kathleen

Bellissima e sipmatica ripresa!

Ciao e grazie, Emanuele

Hi Janice,
Cute little bird, I like the white circles around the eyes of this bird it looks like its wearing a mask. Good pov and a clear clean photo,
regards
Matt.

Cute shot,different pose.
Nice capture!

Hello Janice,
After taking a look at the bird and reading the title, I had to laugh loudly.
It really seems like the bird is a little cross-eyed :)
Wonderful feather details and pose of the bird.
Sharpness and lighting are excellent.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes,
Harry

Hi Janice,
a new beautiful picture of the lovely bird, eevn if he is cross-eyed he is lovely.
Very good sharpness and details, fine lighting and colours.
Good DOF too, the bird standout well.
Well done, my friend.

Hi Janice, I've never seen one of these, I'd remember. You've captured this with extremely fine detail, and beautiful colour. The diagonal across the square crop works very well.

Thanks, John

Hi Janice,

Your photo is so sharp and full of details. Look to the birds nails. He/she misses one of there nails on the left. At that moment you thake this photo, was it cold outside Janice?? A beautiful composition. Nice colours. Good POV and BG. Cheers and TFS Bob

Cute little silver one :)

Nice close up of this beautiful small fellow, Janice. Straight facing photos of birds end up often disappointing. This one is not. Your POV and composition were perfect. Good detail and sharpness. Well done.

Janice, a beauty indeed.

Great pose, pov, blurred bg and colors.

The pov is rather funny in my opinion, but it adds a lot to the image.

merci a toi
edith

What a great perspective this is! I like the colors of this little guy very much, those superb details and good POV. This is a great kit that Pam has :) Well done with interesting notes. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Janice,
Super close-up of this Silvereye, you fit the beautful passerine in the frame just the way I like it. :)

bonjour janice
c'est un tres joli oiseau,il est net et detaillé,j'aime ses couleurs et comme elle sont disposées sur lui.
il y a un peu de bruit dans le BG que vous auriez pu supprimer avec neatimage par exemple.
laurent

Hi Janice
I like your portrait of your little Silvereye. You've captured him at a nice angle as he's perched on the branch. The small branch behind him is a little distracting. The POV and DOF is excellent though. Colours and detail are excellent.

Hi Janice!
What a cute bird! And here presented in very funny pose :) I like a lot its name - silvereye - it is more that correct! The contrast between white/silver area placed next to bird's eye is really great.
Bravo and TFS,
Radomir

Hallo Janice
What a beautiful and interesting looking bird. A lovely and colourful photograph. This Silvereye certainly has pretty (almost squint) eyes, and one can understand and also see where it got its name from. The white circle's around the black of the eyes creates a special magnetism to this pretty, and as per your describe minute bird. A great close up with clear details and wonderful colours. I like the way the bird's head is tilted very slightly. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna
