[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On the day we went to Muriwai Beach to photograph the Gannets, we took the time to 4 wheel drive along the beach coastline. There were many opportunites during the trip to stop and take photos. One of the stops was to take a photo of this Storm Petrel. As I approached, I was sure it was going to fly away but it didn't as it hadn't see me approach from it's left side due to it's eye being closed, and it made no attempt to fly away when it saw me. I saw how close another vehicle had come to it and thought it strange that it hadn't moved. At this point I realised it was unwell and a little human intervention was required. I took a towel from our vehicle and wrapped the wee bird up and transported it to a Bird Rescue centre were we were told what type of bird it was and that it had been been exhausted in heavy seas. The eye would be alright and it required a good feed, rest and in a few days would be ready for release. I can only image it is now flying high and enjoying it's freedom.

Poor birds. They can't find a place for them in this strange world of people.
Very nice photo and interesting, touching story.

Great composition, even if the wheel traces aren't really nice.
Well done.
TFS.

Touching story Pam. I was hoping you weren't going to say a car had hit it. Good on the Bird Rescue people. Thanks for sharing this.

Very nice series and note. I am glad you helped it. Some of the purist would have said to let nature take its course, but we interfering with nature all the time and we have to put something back.

Very well done and thanks for posting.

Pam, nice composition(s). Maybe the pictures could be a little more sharper, but that's a minor nit.

Great note too.
