[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Sitting on the bow of a boat with my legs dangling over the front and my camera firmly held in place, the skipper drove forward as far as safely possible so I could get a few close shots of the Huka Falls. The water was turbulent and it made taking the shot a challenge. See how small the people look? I have not cloned them out so you can a good perspective of the size of the falls. I am pleased with the result. Thanks for looking.

Huka Falls

The Huka Falls is New Zealand's most visited natural attraction. The thundering Huka Falls provides a fantastic photo opportunity - more than 220,000 litres of water tumbles over the cliff face per second! Located in Wairakei Tourist Park, just a short drive
north of Taupo, there is an Information Centre located by the falls and several viewing platforms provide excellent vantage points.

The unique blue colour of the water is due to the very clear water reflecting blue light. The air bubbles in the water intensify the blue colour.

The water temperature varies from between 22ºC in the summer to 10.5ºC in the winter.

The volume of water passing over the falls varies between 32 and 270 cubic metres per second. Depending on the flow, the falls fluctuate in height from 7 to 9.5 metres.

During the 1930s a small hydro-electric power station was constructed just below the falls. It supplied power to the Wairakei Hotel until the mid 1950s when it was replaced by the municipal electricity supply.

At the base of the falls there is a dangerous undertow caused by the falling water plunging deep into the pool.

Lovely shot Pam!
The fall really looks amazing and the picture is very good technically and clear, maybe only slightly dark.
I think I would be tempted to clone out the people. Maybe I would save one for the scale ;)
I like it a lot.
VERY WELL DONE!

Hi Pam,
it's a wonderful place, I love the spray of water and the wonderful blue-colours.
I think the waterfall was in the shadow, could be a little more light there, then it is perfect.
Thank you very much, I like it

Super Pam! So you did Taupo today - have a great holiday with the family...
I thought you would have to be in a boat to get this shot, as it's not a POV we usually see. Very well done! CONGRATULATIONS!
Janice
PS I'm pleased you left the people in, imo.

Hi Pam!

Sounds great! It had to be great boat trip! Falls look great, very good POV and composition and like its Maori name as always. Did you tried to take pictures from bridge over falls?

I have been there aswell (oh, it sounds so good to write that down! ;)), but this is amazing. The pictures I brought home aren't half the quality of this picture. Well composed, good POV, great DOF, sharp as a knife and nice colors. The people in the middle are very good for reference; these falls are wide and big. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

This is an impressing view Pam. I liked very much to see this, but I would have loved to be there with you enjoying this natural show. The frontal POV gives an unsual composition. I like Sabines WS, it was a bit dark for me too.
Thanks for bringing this amazing waterall to me. Reagards, Felipe.

Nice picture. I like the workshop. It gives your photo more life and more distinct values...not so much mid tone.

Hello Pam, this is a very nice landscape with great colours and sharpness. Very good composition and great note. Thank you.

Pam, a very beautiful composition. I like pov too.

Great mood - I can almost "hear" the water.

Great note too.

Hello Pam,

This is a very lovely composition and details are great, however, I agree with some of the others' remarks concerning darkness of the shot, and Sabine's ws helps.

Great job, it is a good thing you didn't get motion sickness...

Thank you!

Hi Pam,
Great POV, but I think the image is a little dark and lacks a bit of punch in colour. I'd be tempted to see what the shadow/highlight tool could done in CS2. I was at Huka falls in Dec on a similar day and found getting good exposure very difficult. You have controlled the contrast very well.

Hi Pam,
this is a great view, I almost hear the sound.
Well composed. good POV and details.
Maybe a little dark and I think Sabine did a good WS.
Very well done.

Hi Pam, very nice. At first looking at the picture I was wondering why you didn't use a longer exposure and more a smaller apeture - but them I read the note. Lovely atmosphere and good composition.

Hi, Pam.
I want to be there. Place is very beautiful. Composition is nearly perfect. I just feel the power of falls here.

Love the image and the water coming down with such great force, I am sure it was nice having been there. I made a workshop also, just to play around a little removing the people, hope you like it.

Demetrio

Wow Pam! I'm ready to go inner-tubing down Huka Falls, not too sure what the end results would be though. Great capture showing the beauty of this magnificant waterfall. :)

I really like this picture and leaving the people in it has helped to add perspective to it as you said. without it, it is not as impressive. I like Sabine's workshop, it has improved a very nice picture.
