[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As mentioned in my 'Sulphur Vent' post here is the end result after the little guy grows up. They may start from very humble beginnings but they grow up so fast. Not sure how big this guy really is but I can tell you it makes a hell of a noise pushing all of that sulphur gas out through the vent. The noise it makes reminds me of standing next to the out take of an industrial air conditioner only it smells like the air conditioner is in a room with lots of really rotten eggs.

Our tour guide said that this one on White Island had probably formed over a couple of decades and as it got bigger would actually cave in on itself and become another big hole in the landscape.

I wish I could of made a better shot of it but there was a lot of steam and I had to wait quite some time for this shot as the steam just didn't want to blow in the other direction. One of the biggest problems with being in a live volcano is the guides don't like you hanging back by yourself to take pictures, so I got a slap on the hand several times as that is exactly what I kept doing.

White Island is currently one of only two active volcano's in New Zealand, the other being Mt Ruapehu in the Central North Island. I can tell you that the tour was well worth it as you can normally catch a pod or two of dolphins on the boat ride, we actually spent an hour or so with a pod of around 500 dolphins chasing after a massive school of fish on the return trip so you get a volcano and dolphin tour in one.

Please feel free to tell me how I could improve on it or maybe even workshop it to bring out the colours better as I still don't know how to drive PhotoShop so all the help I can get to get the best from my shots would be very much appreciated.

I see the colors are very natural.
For me the picture is good, realistic and impressive.

Sean, the power in the steam certainly shows in this image. The colours are so real too, I love that yellow of the sulphur. Yes, I bet it was noisy.
Your notes are really interesting to read too. Good job all over, thank you
Janice
