[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On a visit to an old gold mining area on the east coast, south of the Coromandel Penindula, I came across these lichen growing out of old railway sleepers.
The thought occurred to me ... as long as we don't poison all life out of existence, nature will prevail. Lichen particularly are very adaptable. They secrete acids which can dissolve wood, rock and even metal, releasing nutrients and minerals contained within.
It is only a matter of time before the metal nut behind begins to oxidise and rust builds up. Once it reaches that stage it will bcome food for lichens, liverworts and mosses.

Nice POV but not enough DOF I think I would have cropped of the lichens on the left

Good low perspective, but as Clive said not enough DoF if you want to include the nut in the background, well exposed and good colour and well spotted.

Green tentacles :-) As others said not enough DOF but rest is great! Very interesting shapes of those lichens, nice POV and details. How big are they?

Great POV and details, I like this one a lot. And I agree with your thought, as would the dinosaurs.

Very interesting shot!
I like the POV very much. The composition and colours are very good as well.
I've always knew that photo of lichens can be very interesting. Its just a matter of good capture. This one is very good and I like it very much.
Well done!

Another unusual shot Steve,
