Tui Chick

Tui or Parson Birds (Prosthemadra novaeseelandia) are now becoming relatively common around Havelock North since the advent of predator control in recent years. It is now possible to see up to 30 birds feeding on blossoms in the area. They have started to breed in Havelock North and this has made it possible for me to photograph this freshly fledged chick in a friend’s garden.

What I have tried to achieve with this photograph is to capture this beautiful chick’s character, by emphasising its face with the large prominent up turned yellow lips. I have not seen any photographs of fledging chicks anywhere and I feel this is well showing to inform people how delightful some of our New Zealand birds can be.

Apart from all the noise in this image, the baby chick does looks really sweet.
I think you have cropped in too much on it Richard. But we do get to see this little fellow.
I have never seen a Tui chick before, so thank you for sharing
Janice
