[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A common sight in many lowland swamps is the strutting pukeko. Like many wetland birds, pukeko are uniquely adapted for life in wetlands with specialised beaks and feet. The long toes of the pukeko help to support it on the wet and boggy ground. It can reach areas that predators, such as cats and stoats, don’t like to go. Pukeko also like to nest on top of rushes or wetland grasses surrounded by water. These behaviours help protect them from predation. Pukeko feed on a wide variety of wetland vegetation but also insects, frogs and even the eggs and chicks of some birds.

Wonderful shot.Details, reflection on water,POV and lighting are excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sue.Was this one in the wild?
They can be quite hard to get near as they are very nervous.
I was lucky to be able to photograph them at Hamilton lake where they are pretty tame.
I still have Pukeko shots I meant to post ages ago.

Very nice reflection in the water here Sue. Good colours and nice framing. Maybe a bit more of sharpness would grant a better result. The details seem a bit soft. But well done!

Hello Sue,

good capture - he is looking into the camera and smiles! Very rare with animals especially with birds.
I like the nice reflections in the water.
This makes it a very vivid composure.
