I hope My iD is correct, in my garden this is just a pest, but in a photograph these are amazing creatures.

common name: brown garden snail
scientific name: Helix aspersa Müller (Gastropoda: Pulmonata: Helicidae)

Snails belong to the class Gastropoda, and are related to the clams and oysters which belong to the class Pelecypoda. They prefer an undisturbed habitat with adequate moisture and good food supply. The snail body is protected by a hard shell, usually marked with spirals. Most land snails are nocturnal, but following a rain may come out of their hiding places during the day. They move with a gliding motion by means of a long flat muscular organ called a foot. Mucus, constantly secreted by glands in the foot, facilitates movement and leaves a silverlike slimy trail. The reproductive organs of both sexes occur in the same individuals and each is capable of self- fertilization, although cross fertilization is normal. Adults deposit eggs.

I took this photo using a flash and macro mode on my camera. I sheilded and deflected the flash to get good light on the whole snail, it took several tries to get this shot. It is amazing how fast these guys move when you are tring to capture them on camera! ;)

PP altered contrast and brightness, Framed and resized.

Well done

Hey, nice one Sue. Excellent POV, really good. It has a funny pose, as if it's looking around and wondering where to go. Great sharpness and colours. Well done.

wow, nice one, sue! :-)
great details, 4 cool "eyes";
although there´s still a small reflection
of the flash on the shell
which does not interfere with the greatness of the shot.
i like it, that you left it some space to crawl.
top job, thor.

Hello Sue!
Wonderful post.Details are crisp clear and razor sharp.Colors,POV and composition are excellent.TFS...:-)

Nice capture, Sue, with excellent details, sharpness and DOF. (S)he looks so alert, and as they're usually pretty quick to pull in the antennae, you must have approached it very quietly for it to stay out like this ;-))

Hi Sue, this is an funny picture of a snail.Very sharp and a funny looking guy. Good job. Thanks!

Magnifique photo !!
On en voit pas souvent des escargot sur TN mais là c'est très réussi.
Bravo !
Nico.

Pose and composition are outstanding. Although the light seems a bit out of control, it gives a nice atmosphere this time. Beautiful snail shot! Very well done with the 1/30 handheld.

What a crisp shot of this often overlooked beauty. I agree with you that they are quite beautiful and interesting, if one bothers to take a close look. Your photo does it justice by showing it off in such great light and clarity. Well done, Sue, and TFS. ; )

Hi Sue, nice shot. The composition is good and I think you've captured some character in this snail. My only nit is the overexposure in the bottom right. Apart from that I think it's a very nice image. Well done.

Snail and leaf of composition. And, light and the tone are good.
The detail is taken by the macro wonderfully.
Thanks for sharing this one.

I like very much your snail position, of course they are slow but when you want to take a picture they are always moving.
Nice details.Nice colours too.

Wonderful capture Sue,
Very nice composition. Excellent POV, details and colours. The flash effect on the grass in the bottom and top right side corners is my only nit. But overall a really good capture.
Thanks for posting, have a good weekend.

Hi Sue,
This is simply wonderful.
I cannot think of a better presentation for a snail - the pose is incredible.
Some over exposed areas but fantastic details

You definitely have a way with snails! Amusing, but also clear and ilustrative of some key details of this type of snail. Excellent macro work.

Très belle photo!

Le piqué est parfait et les détails transcendés par une belle lumière.
