Taxonomic name: Sturnus vulgaris (Linnaeus)
Synonyms:
Common names: blackbird (English), common starling (English), English starling (English), estornino pinto (Spanish-Spain), etourneau sansonnet (French-France), étourneau sansonnet (French), Europäischer Star (German), European starling (English)

Native to Europe, Asia and North Africa, the european starling has been introduced globally save in neotropic regions. The starling prefers lowland habitats and is an aggressive omnivore. European starlings cost hundreds of millions of dollars in agricultural damage each year and contribute to the decline of local native bird species through competition for resources and nesting space.

Description
The european starling is a small bird approximately 21.5 cm, (eight and a half inches) long and weighing around 70 to 100grms (2.5 to 3.5 ounces). Iridescent green glossed feathers cover the nape, breast and back of the bird, while the wings are black, sometimes with a green or purple veneer. During the winter white flecking may appear on the starling's breast.

Geographical range
Native range: Europe, Southwest Asia and Northern Africa.
Known introduced range: North America, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. (Adeney, 2001)

Biological control: European starlings were introduced to New Zealand to control local insect populations.

I have been trying to catch this Starling for days. He comes and sings every sunny afternoon and doesn't let me get too close. he has beautiful plumage.

I used Paintshop to crop and frame the image.

Hello Sue!
Very nice capture.POV,DOF and details are wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sue

Nice shot of the starling. Good light showing the colours of the plumage. Lovely clear blue BG. I would have crooped more from the top to remove some of the branches. Good detail and POV. Clarity and sharpness are spot on. Well done. Thanks.

Hey Sue,

I can't beleive that you got so close to this old boy. I've been trying to stalk them for weeks now, but have not got anything decent to show for it. Well done and keep it up.

Hi Sue, very nice capture of this starling. I like the colours especially the blue sky. I'm unsure about the composition, I think the is too much space above the bird, apart from that it's a very nice shot. Well done.

Hi Sue,
A nice shot on this Starling (Pest). The colors and detail are excellent, as is the composition and positioning of the subject. I agree that space on the top could be removed, but it says you cropped already. Another crop would probably cause loss of detail. I have the same problem not having enough lens to reach alot of things you want to fill the frame with.

HI Sue, these starlings do have pretty plumage colours. So irridescent and shiny. Very good capture.
I agree with Pam to crop off a bit from the top, but otherwise it's good. Well done.

Merci pour l'envoie !

Hi Sue,
A nice picture from your hand. The contrast of the bird to the blue sky made this photo special. Good capture.
