[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The little bits poking up from the moss are called the SPOROPHYTE. This is made up of 3 parts. The FOOT which anchors the seta to the moss. The SETA, or stem. The piece on the end is the CAPSULE which holds the spores this is sometimes called the SPORANGIUM. When conditions become dry enough the little structures called PERISTOME, which are like two rows of teeth, open to allow the spores to be released.

I believe this moss pictured is Leptostomum macrocarpon (syn., L. macrocarpum) but i could be wrong.

You will notice the SPOROPHYTEs all facing to the left. They were facing the outside of the tree where I expect they could find more light.

The moss is pictured on a tree on Mount Taranaki (Mount Egmont).

I have croped the image slightly and sharpened using ACDsee.

I love this shot of the moss Sue, wonderful colours, especially with the sporophyte standing out so well. Good job.
