[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Awaroa Scenic Reserve is a little known reserve in the remote hills Southeast of the harbour settlement of Kawhia,on the west coast of the North Island (NZ).
It is an area of temperate native podocarp (conifer) and broadleaf forest with an understorey filled with tree ferns and nikau palms. The taller forest trees here are Kahikatea,Dacrycarpus dacrydiodes (seen in the middle-right of the photo),and Rimu,Dacrydium cupressinum,a graceful, weeping, native red pine.
I'll try and feature each of these plants individually at some stage.
This is the view from our campfire on the riverbank. Two rivers meet here, and the swimming is beautiful. This is the sort of environment you could live in naked. You could crawl through the forest at night, and nothing would harm you.You could walk round here for days and never see a soul.It makes you wonder why people always flock to these paid camping grounds with hundreds of others.I guess they just don't know about these places.Perhaps its just as well.

HI Steve - great shot of the Awaroa Scenic Reserve with all those magnificent trees. I can see you had a great camping holiday last week. I look forward to seeing more photos of your time there.

Very nice landscape, justa bit overexposed on top, great water movement.
Well done.
TFS.

Great shot Steve. Excellent place to go and get yourself together again. Nice work, look forward to your forthcoming attractions

Hi Steve
I trust life is treating you kindly lately. Yes, I have also not been on your stuff, comes from my reactive habbit of commenting on those who commented on me - I never get out debt, so, if I succeed, then my dimes are spent by the time I might have time for an additional comment.
Beautiful scene, the river and trees are senene. We also have podocarpus here in SA, some are over 600 years old. Your one there in the middle olso looks about 300 year or so. Beautiful tree.
