Another variety of a swallowtail butterfly taken at the Thames Butterfly Park.

Swallowtail butterflies have two "tails" near their rear, a feature seen by bird predators as "antennae." In addition, in some species, the brilliant red spots in irridescent blue are mistaken as "eye spots." In other words, it looks like the hind end of the butterfly is the head end. Often birds go after this "tail end",and the butterfly flies away with the bird holding a "tail" in its beak. The butterfly may have lost the back part of its wing, but it is still alive! When you are watching swallowtail butterflies, notice that some swallowtails have missing tails!

Hello Scott, Excellent colors, exposure and details with a great POV. I might've composed this closeup with a bit less space behind. Great shot!
P.S. Do you ever employ the use of tripod in your macro shots?

Oh wow, what a beautiful critter ;-))
Excellent sharpness, colours and DOF. As for POV, I think I'd have cropped differently so as to leave a bit more space in front and above the b'fly and taking away some bottom and right. This would move the critter out of the centre of the photo ;-)
