[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This specimen was found on Mt Maungatautari.

This mountain can be seen from great distances, and has recently had a pest free fence erected around part of the summit. It is an ecological island, where the Department of Conservation are atempting to create a safe haven for our native species of birds, insects and lizards.

An awesome view can be had from just the foothills of this mountain - my family and I have not yet gained the summit - a future pleasure :)

Hi Merran. I have photos of this fungi too, taken on Mt Pirongia, but I don't know what it is yet.
I used to look at Maungatautiri every day from my house at Pirongia. I've been a little way up, but not since they built the big fence.
I'm now based in Punakaiki.
Good to see someone else from the Waikato posting.
I'll try and visit more often and start posting regularly again.
If you look at my earlier shots, they are mostly taken on Pirongia.
Cheers, Steve

Hi Merran
The fungi you have I think is a very young Psathyrella asperospora. The image is a little dark for my liking but never the less shows of the scales well.
