Guinea fowl

Isn’t he stunning? I’m not sure if he’s had a bad fright that caused to hair to stand up on top, or whether it’s just having a ‘bad hair day’!!

Guinea fowl is the common name for any of the seven species of birds of the family Numididae, native to Africa and Madagascar. The helmeted guinea fowl, Numida meleagris, has a bare head and neck, sleek body, smooth dark feathers dotted with white, and short tail. It is named for its bony casque or lump on his head.

The largest member of the family is the 24-in. (60-cm) vulturine guinea fowl, Acryllium vulturinum, found in tropical E Africa. Guinea fowls are extremely good runners and use this method, rather than flying, to escape predators.

The common guinea fowl s can have about 20 different colours and patterns. There are four distinct patterns of the dots or "pearling".

Hi Janice,
Excellent portrait shot on this Guinea Fowl. The composition and framing are perfect. Nice colors with sharp detail. Beautiful? Ugly? depends on your perspective. But, it is flawlessly captured.

Interesting image of the head of this bird. Although in some fields of my environs there are some Guinea fouls in little farms, never I took an image from them.
Greetings for the first person who criticized my first photo and thanks for your beautiful images

Love detail and exposure, but she does need a make over! ;)

A very nice shot of an ugly bird.
He is ugly for our glance but for Madam Fowl he must be very attractive. Her eyes must see things which for us are invisible.

Thank you for all, Janice.

Hi Janice,
Kind of funny, yes! But then I don't know the first thing about birds and should not comment on bird photographs at all! However... I like your composition, DOF is just right and colours and details likewise

Pablo -
