The Black Stilt, Himantopus novaezelandiae, is a large wader in the avocet and stilt family, Recurvirostridae. Adults are 40 cm long. They have very long red legs, a long thin black bill and black plumage. Juveniles have a white breast, neck and head, with a black patch around the eyes.

A very nice portrait but, obviously, a "bad hair day!" I wish this lens didn't produce those strange OOF artefacts, but that's Canon's fault not yours!
Thanks, Nigel.

Pam, it looks such a weak character, no wonder their numbers are down. How lucky you were to see him. Great capture, thank you. Busy BG!

Hi Pam,
A nice portrait on this Black Stilt. Excellent colors, and sharp detail. What type of post processing if any did you do to the backround? It has a very interesting effect.
Scott

Lovely detail, good lighting, well done.

Hi Pam!
Sorry, no time for decent critique, but enough to give you well deserved smiley :)

//Superb details, nice subject and very interesting BG//

Hello Pam!

Do you know how sometimes, when you look at a photo, you get a sense or feeling that you can't explain?

This one made me feel protective, as the look in its eye and posture, seems vulnerable and sweet.

Which somehow seems appropriate as they are endangered.

Great portrait, details, lighting, POV and message.

Well done and thank you.
