[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today I explored some of the most beautiful forest I've ever seen,in the most perfect conditions.
I've only ever seen these Greenhooded Orchids a couple of times before,in twos or threes. Today I found hundreds. Even better,one of them,I found out the other day,may be a previously unrecorded species.
Pterostylis banksii (named after Captain James Cooks botanist,Joseph Banks) is the most common Greenhood orchid in New Zealand.
It grows to around 20cm tall,is insect pollinated,and flowers in spring (that's right about now).They are often found in swampy or shady mossy areas near the edge of the forest or in clearings,often with species of Spider Orchids like Corybas and Nematoceras.
At the time of posting I thought this was one of the new ones,but after further consultation,I have to confirm that this is the commoner orchid Pterostylis banksii.It was one I found in another location a few weeks ago that has yet to be identified. Never mind...it's still a beautiful flower.

I wish I could to photograph orchids not only on exhibitions. This one is very nice, looks like bird.

Steve, this flower is beautiful, looking at the BG I try to imagine those beautiful forest you are talking about, they must be wonderful. I hope I will enjoy them through your posts. (PD: Thanks for your corrections, my english is not as good as I would like)

We have plenty of greenhood species in eastern Australia, this one looks a little to green and the top of the hood is burnt out. It has good DOF and the POV is quite good.

If it would not have a name I would call it ,,Dali mustache,, (see here why: http://www.mwc.ne.jp/bleue/ )... lovely image ...

Tienes la suerte mi amigo de transitar por bosques y senderos con semejantes bellezas naturales.
Y esta no es la excepcion... una gran captura de un flor silvestre tan particular.
Excelente POV, aunque el cuadro es un poco pequeño, puede apreciarse perfectamente.

Like this one lots. The orchid looks like it has antennae as well.
