+++ I think the DOF works well even if you don't. Nice lighting and good colours. Excellent sharpness and details. Great composition.

Not bad at all for a 2Mp camera.
Good sharpness considering and I like the composition; well exposed.
POV is a bit dodgy, but as you say you were young then :)

Hi Steve

You're keen, getting this close to a Weta. Did it jump on you, I hear they cling really well? :)

Nice tight composition and placing the Weta on a diagonal across the frame makes for a more interesting and stronger image. It's good to see all it's legs and antennae are included too.

On my screen the image has an overall yellow cast (especially noticeable in the bark and lichens) so I have done a workshop for you to adjust the blue channel using the curves tool in Photoshop to reduce the yellow a tad. Hope you don't mind.

nice shot of this interesting insect. Nicely composed. POV, sharpness, details very nice. But interesting and informative notes about it. 45 cm very large.

It looks good picture-wise but it looks like a yucky that might jump and bite me kinda bug. My OZ friends whom I see face to face tell me never to go down under..I would be in company of insects, snakes and natives who would "take advantage" of my naivety. But as far as a photo goes.... I might have to remember my ZigZag way of going..:-)

Hello Steve!
Well, now I can see of of the most enigmatic and amazing insect species in the world! Genus includes Hemideina one of the most amazing creatures among not only Orthoptera but the whole animal fauna. Did you know that some New Zeland species can survive freezing? (for more details please see my note here , I know the species is totaly different and not so impressive :>).
According to technical aspects of this image I have to say that thanks to very good POV, DOF and colouration it is a great pleasure to watch this photo. Very good work!

The NZ wetas are scary animals :-) Would like to see one alive one day... Perfect presentation - well seen ears on the front tibia and the shiny armour.
