[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After seeing Gregs 'Horror Damselfly' I was reminded of this shot I took a year ago in a garden at Pirongia in the North Island.
The African (not NZ) Mantis is obviously stalking the jumping spider, but it had no idea what it was up against. It was much too fast to capture, but each time the mantis struck, the spider would turn and lunge back.
Eventually the mantis gave up.
These little hunting spiders are pretty tough customers!

Hi Steve, Excllent details, BG, POV and colors, Ilike this close you have capture alot. TFS Kyle

Fascinating shot and story. Nice that the mantis is blur. Despite the blur, you can still read the mind of the mantis: great.
They can both strike so fast. I wouldn't have thought that they are both also also fast enough to escape such an attack.
Looking only at the thumb, it is not obvious there is a mantis. I'm afraid lot of people will underestimate this marvelous picture and not clicking the thumb to open.
