[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These are some older specimens of the Ear Fungus, Auricularia polytricha, that I featured in yesterdays post.
Clive has just pointed out to me in his critique that this has recently been renamed Auricularia cornea.
As you can see, they are much thinner than the juveniles, and have a much more irregular shape.
They are fairly fragile, and sometimes can become quite translucent allowing the sunlight to penetrate through them, giving them a reddish glow when viewed from underneath.
Unlike many other fungi,Ear Fungi produce spores on their upper surface. They are always found growing on dead and rotting tree branches.
As I mentioned in my last post, they are considered a delicacy in many countries, and were exported from New Zealand to China in the late 1800s.
I hope you enjoy this shot.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
The details are nice, clear and sharp.
Good colours, lighting and exposure. DOF is spot on and the POV is good.
They certainly look unusual, and not very tasty..
Thanks for posting, have a great week

Nice photo showing good detail with a good POV.
This fungus got renamed again last year its now known as Auricularia cornea. I have also eaten this fungus no taste but does add texture to things like stews.
Clive

Hi Steve,
What a strange fungi! They are just amazing by being so different one from the other. I know almost nothing about them but I know that you did great with those. I guess that was not that easy to have the good lightning setting because of their particular coloration. Nice details and colors, interesting notes too. TFS,
Claudine

Hello Steve, glad you are keeping well.

This is an interesting shot, yours look alot different to the ones we have here. Nice view, a little more DOF would be nice but i reckon you'll need a tripod for that. Well done.

*I've turned off my points, I cannot recieve and I cannot give. I'm sorry for the latter*

Hi Steve,
Great detail, with nice color, POV and framing..
Interesting contours and textures seen.
So do you actually eat these things? :)
Well done and TFS!

Great shot. You manage to control the exposure very well. The DOF and BG is also very nice.

Otra bella composición de estos extraños hongos que tienes la suerte de capturas en tus imágenes Steve.
Un agradable POV y un colorido que contrasta con el verde del fondo, realza aun más a los protagonistas de la presentación.
Saludos... Ricardo

Another beautiful composition of these strange fungi that you have the luck of captures in your images Steve.
A pleasant POV and a colorful one that contrast with the green one of the bottom, even heighten more to the protagonist of the presentation.
Greetings... Ricardo

Hi Mr Reekie :-)
What we;ve got here? Monsters from horror movie? No? ;-) Nice looking fungi, slightly similiar to some animals from bottom of the sea. Good composition with fresh green moss. Pirongia at its best. Nice to see you in good condition again, my friend :-)

Hello Steve,
fascinating trip into a dim and humid fairy tale country!
Can smell the moss and the fragrance of mushrooms.
These fungi are a delicacy just to look at.
Thank you! BEst regards,
Peter
