I don't think I've ever posted a fly on TN ... so here ya go ... my token fly.
I' not 100% certain,but I think this could be a European Flesh Fly which was introduced into New Zealand,and is now common in farmland around the North Island of New Zealand.
These flies drop live maggots,much larger than those of the common housefly.
Check out the big suckers on its feet. |

Hi Steve!
Yes, it looks like our common, hated-by-all fly :-) I like composition with weird shape of leaf and intense colours. Insect is detailed but slightly soft in my opinion.
By the way - one of our tv channels repeated Monty Python's yesterday - do you remember sketch about customs officer and swiss watches smuggler ;-) ?
