Hello Janice,

I do not know why you are not happy with your photo. I think it is a very fine one. I like very much the way you have shown the light refelection on insect's wings. In the same time there can be well observed good details of wing's structure as well as body and head.
The butterfly stays very nice against the interesting and well rendered background.

I think this is great, Janice, the dragonfly is nicely in focus and details very sharp. Its not your fault that it won't settle against a more neutral background! This is often frustrating but I think this looks very beautiful with the flower buds in the background and the colours are beautiful.

Oh dear, it sounds like you feel a bit odonata challenged!
For your first, this is very good. You've got the whole insect in focus, with great details..Greg will surely like this as much as I do ;}

Hello Janice,
The lighting and BG make this is difficult shot of a dragonfly but you have made the best of it IMHO with complete sharpness to make this show well from a fine POV.
It would be nice if someone could ID it.
Thanks for sharing this, it's rare to see dragons from NZ.

I'm honored! I know that you don't like d-flies very much, but you must agree that this one looks great. Especially its shinning wings and yellow spots on body. Buds on BG made very nice composition with insect. Great work my friend!

Hi Janice

Ok, so eventually you managed to capture one of those elusive NZ dragonflies (even though it was during the Spring of 2007). Good for you. I am sure Red Greg has appreciated your effort and this dedication.

Since you said: "I can tell you all its faults but you'll see them" so, I am not going to pounce on that band wagon. Yes I saw them (as you did) and so what. It won't help you anything if I expand on the nits. Anyway, that rare NZ dragonfly is long gone and chances that you will soon meet up with one of its cousins are probably rather slim.

PS1. I am pushed for time due to the project I am busy with (all day at work and late nights at home). This rat-race keeps me busy, busy, busy and far away from my friends at TrekNature however, today I want to take a break and go out to the iMfolozi Game Reserve as I won't have the opportunity the next 3 weeks. My 2 colleagues are both going on leave and that means I will have to work every weekend while they are gone.

PS2. Just to rub it in a little bit (sorry I have to do it publicly). I am sure you are well aware of our famous little rugby animals, the Springboks, whom, for a change, got the better of the Silver Ferned Kiwis (otherwise known as the All Blacks). The Springboks came from behind to beat New Zealand 12-7 in a tense but pulsating final of the IRB Sevens World Series last night. What say you & Dave?
