This Monarch Butterfly is only 4 hours Old and she has never flown - yet.


Check out this posting of the butterfly after it emerged from the chrysalis.

Isn't it amazing how the butterfly has grown and strengthened after it came out of the cocoon only 4+ hours earlier?

It spent a long time resting, clinging to the old chrysalis case it had come out of and pumping up his wings. Then he slowly stretched his legs and started moving up the Swan plant.

But now it is getting ready to leave and fly away.

Incredible image Janice,
Very sharp, detailed and with beautiful coloration. Love the composition and exposure in this wonderful photo. Great DOF wise use of f/22 aperture. TFS.
I have watched monarchs many times as they emerged from their chrysalis, and it is a sight that I'll never forget.
