Boiling Mud Pool in Action

People have been coming to see the geothermal attractions at Rotorua for the past 160 years.

Rotorua's is famous for its geysers and its hot and muddy pools.

There's an amazing selection in the Rotorua mud pools, depending on how liquid the mud is.

They are always changing, and new features appearing, and old shapes going away.

You could spend hours just photographing the same areas over and over, and see new things each time.


There are three very simple steps to taking photos of mud pool bubbles right at the moment they burst.

First:
1 Choose the bubbling mud pool you want to photograph and get your camera ready to photograph it...

Then:
2 When you think a bubble is about to burst, press the shutter release...

And finally:
3 Repeat steps two and three 30 or 40 times!

Love the technique and the image, it’s like trying to capture lightning hope you hit it at the right moment, thank god for digital doing this on film would cost a fortune. Super shot excellent frozen action.

That is quite an interesting aspect of life-like, non-living nature Janice, perfectly captured while some hot gas bubbles were bursting, good job my friend.

Hello Janice,
An amazing and unusual capture of a boiling mud pool. The timing is great to show the bursting bubbles in a fine composition. I find it hard to believe that this is a colour image, which makes it even more unusual.
