Re-post: I cropped it differently and now the composition is hopefully better. What do you think? Is it really any better?

After a great day (our last day in NZ!) on the ocean close to the shores of Kaikoura (we saw Sperm Whales and Dusky Dolphins) my girlfriend and I entered a rocky beach. At this beach there was supposed to be a colony of seals. We didn't see any seals at first but suddenly they were everywhere. I got some good shots. The seal on the picture tried to scare us away.

Please hit me with your critics. This is my first post on TN, but I have already posted some photo's on TE HERE.

Excellent first post Pieter.
You have captured some good details.
Thanks for posting

I didn't see the first one? so I can't answer the 'is it better' question, but although this is a really cool moment you have captured with super detail, it is a bit light or bright to over exposed. If you have PS or PS Elements or PSP as your editing program you should be able to take care of this easily with either levels or curves.

This post is a lot better than the original one in my pov. It gives more space for the seal to yell at you. Great action shot.

Yes, It is much more better.
Very good composition ;-)
This is really nice shot of this interesting subject.
Well done

Good first post Pieter, good sharpness and POV.
Well done.
Thanx for sharing.

Very good first post Pieter.
Good sharpness, colours and POV.
Very well done.
Wwlcome to TN.

i think this is a good example of how to improve an image and the comments you've recieved support this. As Rene says, now the seal has space tp yell into. Pehaps the rocks are a bit bright, not to worry, its a much better composition.

Thank you for sharing so beautifull pictures and for the enjoyment which they give us.

Wow, Pieter, what a great capture! All your photos of NZ make me want to visit next time I'm "down under"...just saw Australia last time. Maybe brightness could be decreased a touch; otherwise fantastic.

Gostei muito do enquadramento, ficou muito bom, além, é claro, do fato do animal estar com a boca aberta sempre valoriza a imagem.

Hello Pieter,
Very nice shot of this angry sea lion!
Nice diagonal composition, good details!
Best greetings,
Michal
