Hi Steven, lovely action shot! The kias must be licking the stones to get salt - this is fairly common behaviour in the animal kingdom. If you stay near this place, maybe you would be able to observe them and see whether this is something they do regularly. Animals generally have a particular place they go to on a regular basis - called a salt lick.

So you found our cheeky Kea! Aren't they delightful characters? Nice shot showing their lovely plumage. I especially like the bright orange under their wing and the blue in the tail. Lovely camera work. :-)
