Description: 31 cm; male, 600g, female 500g; Upper surface ashy, tinged on the crown and shoulders with red; a black band across the forehead extends through each eye and down the side of the neck to join above the breast; the area enclosed by the band is buffy white; sides barred with chestnut and black.
Introduced bird: The Chukor is a native of India. It was introduced into New Zealand in 1926 as a game bird and has established itself on thec dry hills and mountains of Central Otago in the South Island.
Habitat: Lives in rocky areas of low rainfall up to the snow line.
Range: Well spread from Queenstown through Central Otago and north to the Rolleston Range west of Christchurch.

Hi Pam,
The light is very hard oin this picture, but that's due to the high sun (11.28 a.m.). I also find the POV too high, you should have knelt down to make this picture. Details are sharp and composition is nice. TFS!

Hi Pam!
Very interesting bird today. I like its feathers, especially on wings. Nice colour of beak also. Looks like your picture is heavy compressed - it always happened when you've got sand or gravel as BG.
Technically perfect Pam, very interesting subject. I would consider a lower POV seeing that it could have helped with the harsh midday shadows. Well done.
