The yellow-eyed penguin.
An estimated population of 4000, makes this penguin the rarest of all the penguin spieces. Only to be found in New Zealand.
The picture:
I was down on the beach at Curio Bay to take some photos of the petrified forest there. As I was walking around I suddenly saw this beauty, standing very peacefully and enjoying the sun. It was possible for me to get real close, about 3 m and without disturbing. I took some shots and left again with a nice feeling of being very lucky... |

Hi Christian
It's so nice to have this image of a rare penguin. It's to bad his eye is closed, it would have been nice to see his yellow eye. He looks like he is enjoying the sun on this day.

Hello Christian,
a very cute shot. The penguin seems to enjoy the warm sun rays, but they are giving you very difficult light to work with. You did very well capturing this darling animal, even thought slightly OE you managed to captured a lot of great detail.
