You are the expert, Steve, so I would go with you on the ID of this fungus.
You have captured it well despite limitations of light. I like its yellow colour and interesting shape.
Well done and TFS.

Nice sharp and illustrative shot of another new fungal species Steve.
Though we have a similar-looking orange species in Europe known as Stagshorn fungus, I can see the differences in this fine capture of a Clavaria.
It seems to be associated with the rotting deciduous wood log whereas ours has coniferous forest compost substrate.
You open our eyes to lots of life from the antipodes and I thank you for that!
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Steve,
No need to mention how much I like Your shots, because You have a great collection of NZ fungi, which I otherwise may never see. Beautiful specimens - or this is one only? By the way, its current scientific name is Clavulinopsis archeri.
I hope You aren't tired from my workshops yet, but I did one again. Composition-wise Your pic's excellent, I've made minor changes of exposition, white balance and colors. I hope You like it.
Tfs this nice shot, friendly regards from Hungary, László
