Taxonomy

Domain: Eukaryota
Kingdom: Fungi
Subkingdom: Dikarya
Phylum: Basidiomycota
Subphylum: Agaricomycotina
Class: Basidiomycetes
Subclass: Agaricomycetidae
Order: Agaricales
Family: Tricholomataceae
Genus: Humidicutis Specific descriptor: rosella(E. Horak)
Scientific name: Humidicutis rosella (E. Horak)

There are approximately 8 species in this genus:
H. conspicua ˇ H. luteovirens ˇ H. marginata ˇ H. multicolor ˇ H. peleae ˇ H. poilena ˇ H. pura ˇ H. rosella

This is another shot taken at Arnold River back in June (can you tell I'm hanging out for fungi time again?)
This is one of several species of Humidicutis that we have here in New Zealand.
All have caps that split in this way, and have the marbled stipe and waxy appearence of the waxgills.
When I first posted a Humidicutis, it waas the white one,Humidicutis pura now known as Humidicutis mavis.

These bright fungi can be quite hard to capture well as they are often found in the darkest places.
I lit this one using my PETZL LED headlight.
Hope you like it.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
a real shot of this fungi. The humidity could be felt. The contrast is lovely and superbs clarity. I really like the dark background as it enhances the beauty greatly.
Nice presentation Steve.

Regards,
Foozi

Hi there NZ're...It has been a while and I thought I would drop by and say hi to this mother and baby...I remain intrigued by your love of fungi...but only things of which could be spoken in smaller circles..part of the lyrics of a song I wrote 20 years ago...Fine image with minor exception....I am not here...in summer in NZ!
Bob
PS..I get a lot of hits on the Beetle Song from OZ...any ideas...does she retire or live there and like her own song?
Bob

Hello Steve,
A beautiful capture of 'Little and Large' that helps to illustrate the rough size of these fungi. I love the way you've captured the large one with its split cap and beautiful pink colour. A dark and beautiful natural background too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Steve,

A very soft (pink) colered FUNGI. Real nature. Not perfect, but nice. The dark (almost black) BG makes this photo a bit mysterious. Precisely in the areas where mushrooms grow to hear. Excellent macro shot Steve. Well done.

Nice weekend and TFS BOB

Hi Steve,

A superb fungal portrait Steve.
You did well to use the very limited light together with the auxilliary lighting to get a great portait of this Humidicutis rosella, the delicate pink tint showing well against the very dark BG. The sharpness and composition are fine too.
TFS this beauty of a species entirely new to me.
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Steve,

An attractive mushroom, nice close-up. I've never heard of that genus, interesting note.

Hello Steve,
Beautiful photo with an excellent sharp focus. Great composition and POV. Splendid contrast against the dark BG.

Peter

Hi Steve again,
You captured this pink fungus quite well in the dark. This wasn't the 1st time You used Your headlight, and the end result is nice again (maybe a bit more contrast should do, though). The pic's OK, but the taxonomical informations aren't fully correct: Humidicutis genus belongs to Hygrophoraceae family, not to Tricholomataceae, and the number of valid species is 17.
Best wishes, László
