Bisporella citrina

Kingdom: Fungi
Division: Ascomycota
Subdivision: Pezizomycotina
Class: Leotiomycetes
Order: Helotiales
Family: Helotiaceae
Genus: Bisporella
Species: B. citrina
Binomial name: Bisporella citrina

Bisporella citrina, commonly known as yellow fairy cups or lemon disco, is a species of saprobic fungi in the genus Bisporella, family Helotiaceae.

Fruiting bodies are small (typically less than 3 mm diameter), disc-shaped, smooth, and colored bright yellow. They are often found in dense clusters growing on rotten wood

I have found several colonies of these small yellow cup fungi recently.
All have been on rotting branches in very damp shaded locations.
There is little information available on this species other than what i have copied from Wikipedia above.

I hope you like the shot.
Thanks for looking.
Steve

What a pretty fungi family they are Steve. That trunk looks so wet, the family looks very happy living on it.
Good shot - well seen
Janice

Hello Steve,

Fantastic capture of this interesting fungi.
Nice colours with great detail.
Lighting and composition are splendid.
Good notes.

Ciao Steve, beautiful composition with lovely fungi on a trunk, splendid colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi again,

Wonderful micro world shot, good lights, quite colorful. Pezizomycotas are in most of the case quite spectacular species, with harsh nice colors, and Your photo shows it perfectly. Bravo.

This specie's familiar to me, because it's cosmopolitan, also living here in Europe.

Tfs, cheers, László

Hello Steve,
A superb capture of a colony of Yellow Fairy Cup fungi, a species new to me but we have similar types growing on dead trunks. Technically great and this looks to me like the best way of showing them.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Steve,
The beautiful colors of these fungi, I believe that in New Zealand fungi are infinitely more colorful than those of the forests here. As always good work, excellent handling of light in cloudy and wet days.
Congratulations!
Jesús

great trunk, TFS Ori

Hi Steve, a superb macro capture of these beautifully coloured tiny mushrooms which they cover the trunk.
TFS and cheers,
Bayram
