[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are several places in New Zealand called Coal Creek.
This particular Coal Creek is just inland from the settlement of Runanga,a small mining community on the West Coast of New Zealands South Island.
The forest here is mixed beech (Nothofagus) and broadleaf, but the broadleafs give way to a greater proportion of beeches further inland..
It is an area of extremely high rainfall, and there is an abundance of ferns, mosses, lichen and fungi.
The hills here are riddled with old,and new mine shafts and tunnels some dating back to the last century.
In fact, there is a huge fire burning in the commercial coalfields inside these hills that firefighters have now been fighting for over eight years!
Hope you like the shot.
Steve

Hi Steve,

nice composition and low POV, i would imagine it's spectacular when the river is in spate.

tfs,

Paul

Hi Steve.
Ah ha, glad someone gets to the end of the walk, I always get way-laid with photos on the way of fungi etc and most times run out of time to get to the end.
This is a nice low composition, does not look like to much water coming over this day to be able to get out into the creek, well done.
For me, I would crop out the bright reflection of sky in the foreground, it keeps taking the eye to it and away from the picture, I think it's the falls here that deserves all the attention.

Kathleen has made a relevant point, Steve.
The picture looks perfect without that white OE patch in the foreground; I tried it by rolling the picture up and down and hiding it.
The falls look beautiful and there is a three-dimensional outlook to the landscape through an effective depth of view.
TFS.

Hello Steve

Very nice and very calm scenario you show us here - might be a very nice place for relaxation. I really feel like hearing the sound of the running water - pity there is no sound on this site:-). IMO you did a great job on this one - very nice colours, clever handling of the light with nice details even in the dark areas. I also like all the reflections in the water except for one - the big bright reflection of the sky disturbs me and I do not think it contributes in any way so I would crop the picture just above that reflection.

Apart from that I do like the picture and the atmosphere very much.

Mogens
