Jelly Babies
(Leiotia lubrica)
Jelly Babies are listed in the NZ mushroom guide under the category of cup fungi.
This is because the spores are produced on the upper surface of the cap, rather than on the underside as with most fungi.
It is described as a cup fungi, with the cup being at the top of a stem 25-30mm high and the cup is convex rather than concave.
It takes rather a good imagination to see the cup resemblance, especially since they more often resemble an irregular convoluted blob of jelly, but I guess the scientists know what they're talking about.

I've been looking for these for some time, and today found some wonderful specimens.
Later on, I will post some awesome shots of another one with the light shining through it.
Keep watching.

Cheers, steve

Hi Steve,
Cute looking mushrooms. Such natural formations and shapes. Lovely colours and very sharp details. You are carrying on with your wonderful series and enchanting all of us. Perfect natural lighting and POV. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hola Steve,
Preciosa imagen y bonita composición de esta Leotia, la nitidez y texturas conseguidas son excelentes, TFS. Saludos
José Ramón

This Leiotas lubricas are much greener and darker than the ones we have here. I like this couple poping out of this piece of moss. The look like two lolipops wating to be eaten :)
Best regards, MF.

Hi Steve.
I have not seen these ones, good one. Interesting about the spores on top of the cap, unfortunatly the image is slightly soft in focus on their caps and I can't quite pick the spores up. Interesting all the same though.

A nice capture of this interesting fungi.
Good sharpness here and I like them erupting from the moss.
