Reef stars
One of the hardiest starfish is the reef star, or Pātangaroa, which flourishes on the exposed west coasts of both main islands. They are predators of mussels and use the suction feet underneath their arms to pry the mussel shells open. They can reach a span of 35 centimetres.

I found this one exposed on the rocks at low tide at 12 Mile Beach, 12 miles north of Greymouth.
(Another shot taken with the S3IS)

Hope you like it & thanks for viewing.
Cheers
Steve

Hello Steve!

What a monster from deep ocean! Looks tasty. Have you tried putting these up your nose :-))) ? I like low POV and composition with water/peaks on horizon. Looks like shot from new Godzilla movie :-)

Hi Steve, very good shot, the bright light has given you some great contrast and your composition has made the most of the beautiful looking surroundings too, what setting! The Starfish itself is excellent, with good detail and a real feel of what the texture of it's surface is like. Very well done.
Paul

Hello Steve,

What a big one. Great. Nice shot of this starfish on the musselbank. The bright light falls very good on the subject. It gives a great contrast. POV and BG are good. Your object is sharp with enough good details. Just what Paul said: Well done. Regards and TFS BOB

Hello Steve

A great POV,the star fish looks very imposing from this angle.
It looks like a big hand grasping the rock.
