Bullock Creek
Paparoa Ranges - Westland

You often hear people say that heaven is here on earth.
We all have different ideas about what heaven might be like, but when I'm in such a place as this, I'm quite ready to believe that there could hardly be a more heavenly place. I feel so at peace here, and in awe of the beauty around me.

This is the dry streambed of Bullock Creek, one of the streams that flows through the limestone plateau of the Paparoa Ranges on the South Islands West Coast.
At this point the stream flows through cave passages beneath the huge rocks you see here.
That is the nature of Bullock Creek and many of the streams around here. The whole area is riddled with hundreds of limestone caves which flood very quickly in wet weather.
This area has one of the highest annual rainfalls in the world, and is covered in very dense and luxuriant rainforest.
I've explored this area on the hottest days in the middle of summer and still come out with trousers wet from the moisture on the ferns and moss.
Its no wonder the moss is so green here.

Hope you like this shot of another of my favourite places.
Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve,
This looks indeed like a very peacefull place to be. Away from the noise of the city and other day to day noise.
Great to see the moss covered the stones.
Nice composition, pov and light.

A lovely capture of these moss covered rocks! It looks so soft, like a nice place to take a nap! The details a great, it was captured perfectly, however it could be a tad brighter to bring out the colour more. I have created a workshop just to beef up the image more, but it is still a good original capture so the workshop is not entirely necessary.

Hello Steve,
I can see why you like this place! Maybe its because it is secret to you as well! This is like an artistic exploration of green! All the tones ansd textures! It is magical; if you try you can turn the rocks into giant wide-mouthed frogs and lizards!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Interesting capture and note Steve.
Nice DOF with great color, textures, and details..
Highest annual rainfalls in the world I see..Central Texas has had a record amount of rain this season as well, finally drying out a bit.
Well done!
Howard

We definately have the same idea of what heaven can be, I love this places and your note makes me want to go there...
But most people would see here only a wet shady place, or maybe a nice mossy scenary :)
Beautiful moody capture of this wonderful place.
Best regards, Felipe.
