[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a view looking north from the point where the Truman Track meets the coastline just north of Punakaiki.
This area falls within the Paparoa National Park which stretches along a coastal area of Westland on the West Coast of New Zealands South Island.
Much of the park consists of limestone hills and plateaux which are broken up by beautiful clear rivers which make their way through spectacular gorges and caves on their journey to the sea.
The Paparoa National Park is perhaps best known for the blowholes and famous 'Pancake Rocks' on Dolomite Point, just a few kilometres south of here.
The most notable species of wildlife here are Little Blue Penguins, Hectors Dolphins, and the rare Westland Black Petrel, which only occurs at one colony just south of Punakaiki.
The remarkable thing about the coastline here is that every kilometre or two along the coast the geology is totally different. One beach might have limestone rocks and sand, the next quartz and coloured pebbles, and the next dark granite.
Every beach you come to is totally different to the one around the corner.
In the next few posts I will show you a selection of shots from different places along the Paparoa Coastline ... keep watching.
Cheers, steve

Hi Steve.
Great textures showing in the rock, light is slightly harsh but a great composition of the rock jutting out. Sharp front to back showing detail of some of our wonderful landscape.

Hello Steve,
Great shot showing the effects of weather and wind on the limestone rocks of the coast.
I like the way the late afternoon light casts shadows on the natural rock sculptures.
Thanks for sharing,
Ivan

This is an interesting comp/POV Steve.
The light & shadow of the near rock formation gives ya that 3D feel :)
Great note, Thanx.
Well done & TFS!
