[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A few months ago I found this young Spotted Shag in a carpark by the beach at Punakaiki. It looked lost and confused, and was obviously disturbed by all the curious tourists approaching it,so I picked it up to take it to the local DOC (department of conservation) HQ.
Well .. I didn't count on it having such a long neck, and even though it was down in my lap,it still managed a snap, which as it drew back its head, lacerated my face like a fine toothed saw.
Well ... talk about blood Trev!
Bit of a giggle.
... anyway ...
The shag was eventually released near its colony on Dolomite Point the next day.
If you ever visit the blowholes at Punakaiki, you might see it as you look out over the pancake rocks :)

Very nice, I love the pose of this bird with his beak wide open. Excellent details, nice colors and good composition, such a pity that you cut the bird's feet. I liked your note too, you tell us a nice story.
Valérie.

Hi Steve, Good photo and great story to go with it. Good clarity and DOF, both the bird as well as the surf are in good focus. Well shown. Murray.

P.S. thanks for the focus tips, i am practicing the different settings as you suggested.

The nice thing about long necks is that they can be tied in knots... you should've learnt the little shag some marlinspike seamanship!
