Ok this one is for Elizabeth, because we have been down at the cobden Lagoon so many times and we have just wanted/willed them to come closer. Well today I noticed them in a grassy area, just as you go towards the lagoon and they let me walk right up close-ish to them. I was thinking.. man Elizabeth would love to be here right now. So this one is for you Elizabeth. Not sure its the best shot in the world, but its the thought that counts lol.
Info
the pied stilt. Pied means two colours and just like the pied oyster catcher, the pied stilt is black and white. These birds have very skinny legs like stilts. Their bills are not as robust as the oystercatchers' and are used to gather food from near the surface of water. They use a sweeping motion and sieve out the small insects in the water. |

Wow! What a cool shot of the Pied Stilt... you LUCKY thing, you! You're right, I'd have loved to have been there for that shot! And thanks for the dedication!
Good composition, the grass makes an interesting foreground and background which adds depth, and the stilt is nice and clear. Excellent colour and exposure. Well done!
Cheers
Elizabeth
This is awesome Nicki!
Its just what I wanted to capture too.
Your image is nice and sharp with great colour and well composed.
I like the way the wind has lifted the plumage just behind its head.
An excellent shot again.
Well done.
Cheers
Steve
(ps ... I also sent Jo Keppel the photo of the rubbish around the Blaketown Lagoon and a blurb on how the Waipa and Waitomo councils hire unemployed people to pick up the rubbish there.I reckon they need to do that around here too)

Luck he is coming towards you. My luck is the other way..
Nice capture of Pied stilt striking bird!!
Cheers,
Jane
Hy Nicki
I like the way you shoot this bird. The low POV accentuate her long (redish)legs. TFS, Oana
