[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Dacryopinax spathularius
When immature,Dacryopinax (or 'Extruded Jelly' is more readily identified, because it sprouts from between cracks in dead wood,on a short flat stalk, then flares at the top to curl over and build up around itself.
At this stage,Dacryopinax is a deep orange colour and lightens a liitle with age.
As it ages,it begins to resemble a Tremellus which is much more jelly like in form, even when young, which led me to believe this is indeed the former.
In any case, both are edible,so at least there are no dangerous consequences of misidentificatiuon.

Funnily enough, most of these that I have found have been on the beach,on driftwood just above the high tide line!

Hope you like it.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve, no idea wht kind of Fungi this is, but it's great looking one! Love the bright colours and the stones in the background. It's that time of year again here, this has inspired me to go out and see what i can find - thanks!

Hi Steve

A bizarre looking fungi, I think I saw something like this above the tide line when I was there in April. Great in-your-face composition. Good sharpness and DOF.

Chris

Hi Steve.
Wow, it is a nice bright one and taken nicely to show the pattern, texture and colour. Not sure what it is, I have not seen one before.

Kathleen

amazing, looks tasty, TFS Ori

Namastay Steve,
A nice capture of this beautiful fungi. Very colorful with sharp details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Sincerely
Hara

Fungi are a bit hard to identify down to the species level... sometimes hard enough to identify the genus with 100% accuracy.

Very nicely done Steve and always an interesting study. Don't know if it is just me but I have a dickens of a time photographing nature's bright orange. A case in point is the Jewel weed... saturation always has to be adjusted and detail hard to achieve.... perhaps it is just me and/or my camera. TFS

Beautiful vibrant colours, fascinating subject material, nicely composed.
