[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The South Island Tomtit (Petroica macrocephala) is a small Robin like bird (13cm) that can be seen darting around in the forest catching small insects on trees or on the ground.
Females build nests of moss, bark and cobwebs in trees or in rock crevices and incubate 2 broods of 3-5 spotted cream eggs. Both males and females feed the young.
Pairs often remain together, and will inquisitively persue intruders into their territory.
Their most common call is a very high pitched short squeak, much like that of a katydid or bush cricket.
Like Robins, they will get quite close to humans, but are a little more shy, often retiring behind branches if they feel threatened.
The Tomtit is certainly one of the cutest birds in New Zealands rainforests.
I hope you like this one.

Haven't seen thsi one before Steve.
Quite a good capture, love those orange feet.
Good sharpness achieved for such a low speed and good background on this one. I like the yellow / black plumage.

The picture is very nice because contrast, true naturale colours and naturale light. Most important- Naturale alive. The birds true life is here not in open place. The picture wasn't take like for exhibition but in real nature biotop. Picture talks itself where the bird like to be. Bravo!
More over take this kind of picture is very, very difficult!

Hi Steve,
Another interesting bird I have never seen before. I liked the composition showing its natural environment. TFS
