NZ Native Orchid.
Greenhood Orchid, Pterostylis oliveri

Further to yesterdays post. This is a group of these orchids in their environment amongst the ferns under the forest canopy.

Pterostylis oliveri.
PLANT: 10 to 30cm high when in flower. Robust.
LEAVES: 3 to 4 fairly broad leaves, often with wavy margins. Either forming a basal rosette, or scattered up the stem.
FLOWER: Single. 4 - 5cm high. Green with white stripes. Dorsal sepal very long and strongly curled downward. Lateral sepals long and more or less erect. Labellum narrow triangular.
FLOWERING TIME: November to January.
HABITAT: Montane to sub-alpine open scrub and low bush from Arthur's Pass north to Golden Bay. Is the dominant Greenhood in the Arthur's Pass area.

Great light and exposure with a nice bit of fern leaf texture along the bottom too.

Another woderful photo of this beautiful flower. This clearly shows how fragile these flowers are and how well they are camoflaged. Great work on the DOF and sharpness.

Interesting plant photo. These plants have personality and an animated quality. The composition is nice with the ferns and the out of focus orchid in the background. The light is excellent.
