[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We found this pair of New Zealand Fur Seals on the Kaikoura Peninsula on the South Island. They were gracious enough to allow us to sit, watch, and enjoy them for hours... in fact, we were captivated for so long that the tide almost stranded us on these rocks...

This fur seal apparantly wanted to remind the other that he was the dominant one. The other responded appropriately by flattening itself before him. While we observed several displays of aggression, we never saw any bite. I suppose their bark is worse than their bite!

I will post a few more NZ fur seals soon, with species information.

By the way, many folks choose not to watch the seals because of their objectionable odor... we found that it only bothered us initially, and besides, the seals made it well worth it anyway!

Wow Jenn, you were up close to these fellows. We also were nearly cut off by the tide when we were watching dome in Dunedin once. We still laugh over it, but it was a bit scary at the time. They are wonderful to watch in the waters too, with lots of seaweed and water swelling up and down.
You've caught him real well, nice and clear, especially with teh blurred BG. Well done.

Halo Jennifer.
This is great shot. I love this cute portrait. Especialy sweet nose.
Good job.

Great expression on the seals, Jennifer. The light-colored rocks reflect a bit harshly, but the composition of the two animals are precious. Great shot!
